1 Killed, 1 Injured In Rollover Crash In Aurora

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man was killed and a woman severely injured in a rollover crash in Aurora Sunday night.

Lt. Chuck DeShazer with Aurora police said officers and fire personnel responded to the crash on Pena Boulevard just south of East 40th Avenue.

"A male was located lying next to the guard rail with fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene. A female was found down the embankment just off of East 40th Avenue with severe injuries. She was quickly transported to the hospital," DeShazer in a statement.

DeShazer said the man was driving a black Ford F-250 crew cab pickup toward Denver International Airport. He said man was speeding.

"The truck sideswiped a Hyundai Sonata which spun off of Pena Boulevard and into the dirt coming to rest well out of traffic. The Sonata had three people in the car and none were injured," DeShazer said.

After the collision with the Sonata the truck continued northbound out of control. The truck swerved to the right then slid left across the lanes of traffic impacting the guard rail.

"This impact caused the truck to roll one time during which the driver and passenger were ejected. It is believed the truck's occupants did not utilize the seat belts," DeShazer said.

It is not known if alcohol or drugs were factors.

No charges are expected to be filed in the case.

The names of those involved have not been released.
