COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – Occupy protestors interrupted Gov. John Hickenlooper at the Garden of the Gods Tuesday afternoon.

Hickenlooper was in Colorado Springs to talk about a new solar garden. He tried to continue his speech but the protesters kept shouting. Finally he told them he respects their right to freedom of speech, so to please respect his.

“Wall Street got out with a slap on the wrist and they caused this recession that we are all dealing with, we don’t disagree with that. But I think, let’s get more constructive,” Hickenlooper said.

Other audience members took it upon themselves to ask the protestors to sit down and be quiet.

This governor is a coward… he has a opportunity to do the right thing and hear allllll the voices in this State. This Green Project is to little , to late. WE NEED JOBS. He should be addressing JOBS across the board. He should actually have an open debate with these voices that they are trying to shout them down. Occupy the Govenorship Hickenpooper!

Correction: The groundbreaking ceremony was not at the Garden of the Gods. It was at Venetucci Farm.

The protesters have a classic case of ‘biting the hand that feeds you’. Taxpayers should not be burdened with the excessive costs brought on by these “self-indulgent underachievers who choose to hold their temper tantrum in public” (Rosen). Gov. Hick should have removed the first tent and the person who set it up. The Gov. let his sympathies for the protesters get in the way of his duties to uphold the laws that are on the books as he looked the other way while the problem grew.If there are increased costs due to the Governor’s administrative incompetence/malpractice, then he should pay those costs, not the hard working taxpayers. The people he sympathizes with are sticking it to our governor….and he deserves what he is getting.

totally inappropriate- being rude idiots does nothing to further the cause- only brings discredit and turns otherwise sympathetic people off.
