Colorado Springs Police Release Few Details About Murder Of Elderly Woman

COLORADO SPRINGS, (CBS4) - Police say they've caught a killer who murdered an elderly woman and burned her body in Colorado Springs.

Marcus Smith, 21, was taken into custody on Friday. Police say he murdered 87-year-old Kit Grazioli.

On Wednesday Grazioli's burning body was found on a dirt road known as Captain Jack's Trail Head near Lower Gold Camp Road. Police are not saying how she died.

Police had a warrant to search the Grazioli's home. They say they've had to keep many details of the case sealed in order to make the arrest and for the safety of family members.

Phil Baldwin, who lives on the same block as Smith, is now concerned for his safety.

"You feel a little powerless when something like this happens," Baldwin said. "We're going to discuss amongst ourselves if there's anything physically we can do or recommend to homeowners that might prevent this."

"She was a wonderful lady and we're just glad it's over," Betty Baldwin said.

Police aren't yet saying if the two knew each other or why Smith is being charged with first-degree murder.

The SWAT team was called out when police located Smith and he was captured and subsequently arrested while he was walking down Suncrest Way.
