'Hot Pickup' Is A Truly Character-Driven Musical
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Fans of Boulder's Dinner Theatre this month can check out the world premiere of a musical in progress.
In most musicals you have a plot line and each song pushes that plot line along toward the big finale. In the new musical Slow Dance With a Hot Pickup you have eight characters holding onto a pickup truck for dear life. All for very different reasons.
"It's the characters -- and their reasons for being in this rather vicious radio station contest -- that create the drama," CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody said.
"What's fascinating here is that it's been years since I've seen a character-driven musical and one in which each of these characters has to draw out the stories of the others," Moody said.
