New Police Chief Impressed By Response To Occupy Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - The man tapped as Denver's new police chief met with city council members on Monday.

On Saturday Mayor Michael Hancock introduced Robert White as his pick. White is chief of police in Louisville, Ky.

Monday morning White said he's impressed by police response to the Occupy Denver protests. On Saturday officers arrested 20 protestors after scuffles in front of the state Capitol.

"For the most part it looks like they did a pretty good job. They certainly are understanding and respectful of individuals' rights to demonstrate," White said. "At the same time the demonstrators have to do it legitimately, within the law. The officers understand that … for the most part it's gone well."

The city council must still approve White. He said if all goes well he hopes to start in early December.
