Fort Collins Detective Faces Hearing On Colorado Perjury Charge

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A Fort Collins police detective accused of lying in a murder trial that resulted in the conviction of an innocent man is due in court Tuesday for a hearing on nine perjury charges.

The Coloradoan reports (http://noconow.co/t1FvXR) the hearing for Lt. Jim Broderick was originally scheduled for Monday, but it was pushed back to Tuesday due illness. Broderick has pleaded innocent to the charges.

The charges stem from the 1990s investigation and prosecution of Timothy Masters, who was accused of killing a Fort Collins woman in 1987. Masters was released from prison in 2008 after DNA evidence overturned his conviction.

Broderick was indicted on similar charges last year, but those were thrown out by a judge concerned about the statute of limitations on perjury. Broderick was re-indicted in July.
