Lockerbie Bombing Victim's Sister: 'World Better Without Qaddafi'

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A Colorado Springs woman whose brother was killed when Libyan terrorists bombed Pan Am Flight 103 said the world is a better place without Muammar Qaddafi.

"He needed to be stopped and unfortunately it came to this, and the world is better off without him," said Lisa Gibson.

Gibson actually met the former dictator at the United Nations, where she said she forgave him. She went on to set up a foundation to help the Libyan people.

"I had taken the decision long ago that I was going to forgive and it took years to see what that meant practically and I met with him two years ago and I did forgive him," said Gibson.

Qaddafi is believed to have ordered the terrorist attack on the plane over Lockerbie, Scotland. Gibson's brother Ken was among the 270 people killed.

Although Gibson said justice was served, she feels the ending was very sudden.

"I think most of us as family members would have liked to have seen him tried in court, especially for the Libyan people to have their day in court," said Gibson.

On a recent trip to Libya, Gibson addressed a crowd of 100,000 people in the capital of the rebel territory.

"I said I want to help you communicate to the world who the Libyan people are," said Gibson.

Gibson said she looks forward to seeing Libya develop and hopes for a restoring of ties between it and the United States.
