Ex-Montrose DA Pleads Guilty To Sex Charges

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The former 7th Judicial District Attorney faces up to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he demanded sexual favors from women in his office.

Attorney General John Suthers says Myrl Serra pleaded guilty to criminal extortion and unlawful sexual contact involving three women. Sentencing will be Jan. 19.

Police arrested Serra in September 2010.

During a preliminary hearing earlier this year, one of the women testified that he cornered her inside his office in April 2010, grabbed her breast and forced her to touch his genitals. As part of his sentence, Serra will be required to register as a convicted sex offender.

A jury last month convicted Serra of harassment and violating his bail conditions. He voluntarily turned himself to jail shortly after his conviction.
