Police Catch Man Trying to Steal Copper Wire In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Lakewood police have arrested a man who they say was trying to steal copper from an abandoned building.

Police said the 42-year-old was arrested as he tried to get away on his bicycle from the old Stevinson Chevrolet building near 6th and Indiana, located south of the Colorado Mills Mall.

Police said the suspect was in the process of stealing copper pipe from the building.

Police said they have seen an increase in copper pipe thefts in the metro area as the metal becomes more valuable.
