Volunteers Work To Repair Popular Running Trail In Washington Park

DENVER (CBS4) - More than 500 volunteers worked to repair the popular running trail in Washington Park on Saturday.

About half of those donating their time are serving in Americorps. Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado are leading the effort to smooth the surface of the trail. The group has a long standing connection with the park.

"We built the initial running trail back in 1993 and we refurbished it again in 1999. So we're here again today because the trail has been in need of some refurbishing," Sue Anderson with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado said. "We're working with Denver Parks to make that happen."

More trees will also be planted along the running path. The construction is not part of the controversial plan to shift running trails in the northern sections of Washington Park.
