BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – Pulitzer Prize-winning author John McPhee will receive the Wallace Stegner Award from the University of Colorado Center of the American West.

The award will be presented Oct. 27.

McPhee’s books include “Encounters with the Archdruid,” “Coming Into the Country” and “Rising from the Plains.” He is a staff writer at the New Yorker.

The award is for contributions to the cultural identity of the West through literature, art, history or lore. Previous recipients include Tom McGuane, Sandra Day O’Connor, Terry Tempest Williams and Vine Deloria Jr.

It is named for the late Wallace Stegner, who wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Angle of Repose” and taught at Stanford University.
