Police: School Officers Not Targeting Immigrants

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Police in the Roaring Fork School District say school resource officers are not targeting immigrants for enforcement.

Police chiefs from Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Basalt are rejecting claims from an immigrant rights group that school resource officers used their positions to report students for possible immigration violations.

Police tell the Glenwood Springs Post Independent any cooperation with federal immigration agents is aimed at criminal activity.

The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition said Monday that police cooperation with federal agents is creating mistrust between the resource officers and students.
