Cow Named Lucky Rescued From Well

ERIE, Colo. (AP) - Firefighters, neighbors and animal control officers have rescued a pregnant cow that crashed through a wooden cover and fell eight feet to the bottom of a wide, rectangular well northwest of Denver.

The cow, named Lucky, was hoisted to safety Saturday afternoon. The Denver Post reports a veterinarian checked her out and she appeared to be all right.

Tim Losh of the Mountain View Fire Department says firefighters were called out at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to the well outside Erie. A neighbor called someone who owns a crane and then climbed into the well to calm the cow.

Rescuers looped fire hoses under Lucky's belly, attached the hoses to the crane and lifted her out.
