Pharmacy Robberies Continue Across Denver Metro Area

DENVER (CBS4) - Police in the south metro Denver area are investigating a string of pharmacy robberies. In each case the robber targeted grocery stores.

Robbers have hit a King Soopers and two Safeways. A thief struck just Monday morning at the Safeway on Arapahoe and Quebec in Centennial. Police said he demanded a powerful narcotic called Dilaudid from an employee at gunpoint.

A man matching the thief's description pulled off a heist at another Safeway on Sept. 21 but came up short at the King Soopers.

"We haven't been able to confirm that they're definitely connected but there are enough similarities that we're interested in determining that through our investigation," Cpt. Vince Line with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department said.

Dilaudid is distributed in tablets or vials. It can also be injected. The drug has become increasingly popular on the black market.
