Theater Ceiling Collapses After Kershaw Concert
DENVER (AP) - No injuries were reported when a 20- by 15- foot portion of the Oriental Theater ceiling collapsed onto the stage moments after Cajun music fiddle player Doug Kershaw and his band finished playing a concert.
The Denver Post report Kershaw and his band had left stage and the audience was headed toward exits late Friday when the collapse happened.
Theater booker Scott LaBarbera says about 3-inches of plaster and pieces of drywall fell onto the stage.
LaBarbera says the 75-year-old Kershaw took the scare in stride.
The former movie theater that has been converted into a concert venue was built in the 1920s. The theater is part of a $2.9 million city revitalization of the northwest Denver business district where it is located.
