Tiffany Hartley Still Hopes For Justice

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - (CBS4) The Coloradan whose husband was reportedly killed on a border lake in Texas returned to the scene over the weekend, almost a year after his death.

Tiffany Hartley says she and her husband, David, were jet skiing on Falcon Lake on Sept. 30, 2010 when gunmen opened fire and killed David Hartley.

"They say time heals but I haven't really found that," Hartley told Texas CBS affiliate KGBT, Action 4 News, during the visit.

"We feel like it's hard to move on because we don't have David, because nobody's been found and prosecuted."

Hartley and her husband lived in Texas last September but had planned to return to Colorado. Hartley now lives in Colorado but she and David's mother went back to Texas for a conference on border security.

Tiffany Hartley said it had been a hard year for the family because no arrests have been made and David's body has not been recovered.

Hartley has repeatedly complained she does not feel American authorities are doing enough to find the killers or recover the body. She pointed out the federal government was able to solve the murder of ICE agent Jaime Zapata.

"They went in and he was able to come home but they also were able to find the people who did it," she said. "Why not give us that courtesy?"

In May Gov. John Hickenlooper, Colorado Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, along with Rep. Cory Gardner all signed a letter asking for the federal government to do more on Hartley's behalf.

David's mother, Pam, also told the Texas reporter she is still hopeful progress will come in the case.

"David will come home," she said. "I believe that and I believe eventually our government will help us."

Tiffany Hartley said it is important to make sure no one forgets what happened to her husband, especially because she said violence along the border is increasing.

"There's not one person along this border that has probably not been affected and I want them to know that I am doing the best I can to be their voice."

But still, she said staying vocal and visiting Texas takes an emotional toll.

"When I left Falcon Lake, it feels like I'm leaving him all over again."
