Support American Heroes At The 9/11 Remembrance Run/Walk

ARVADA, Colo (CBS4) - One local group is hoping to get Coloradans moving on Sunday while supporting the country's heroes.

In Colorado this year's Sept. 11 is more than just the 10-year anniversary.

"We are having a 9/11 Remembrance Run/Walk for Lost and Found and this is a benefit walk and run for our Operation Restoration," Sheryl Brickner with Operation Restoration said.

Operation Restoration is an outpatient mental health treatment program for military, veterans and their families. Jerry Ford has been going there for the past four months to get treatment for post traumatic stress disorder. This Sunday he plans to walk for all veterans.

"I really have high hopes that this might touch a veteran coming back from Afghanistan, Iraq; leaving the war with possibly having post traumatic stress syndrome," Ford said.

Ford has seen positive results through treatment from his doctor, Larry Morries. Money raised for the walk supports the program.

"It provides them funds to support veterans who are financially strapped, is the way I understand it, and provides them another avenue of treatment," Morries said.

For Morries the run/walk is about more than just remembering Sept. 11 and veterans. This cause hits close to home.

"I think what we don't understand is how traumatic what they've been through is," Morries said.

Morries hopes through his work with the organization and the run/walk more veterans can get the treatment they need.

"They need all the help we can give them," he said.

The Remembrance Run/Walk is next Sunday at Memorial Park in Arvada starting at 6:30 a.m. CBS4's Tom Mustin is emceeing the event.
