Victim Of DUI Wreck Asks Judge To Show Mercy

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors have dismissed the most serious charges against a drunken driver after the victim asked a judge to show mercy.

Kevin Bascue suffered broken legs in the accident last year and had 10 surgeries.

Bascoe told Judge Richard Gurley he sympathized with 51-year-old Debra Devoe.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, Devoe was sentenced to 12 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to drunken driving, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury and drug charges. She will be eligible for parole in six years.

Prosecutors dismissed more serious charges, including being a habitual criminal.
