Man Dies After Driving Away From Police In Aurora

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man died in Aurora early Tuesday morning after speeding away from police with what were apparently his two young children in his SUV.

The incident started at about 2 a.m. at East Mississippi Avenue and South Peoria Street.

Police say Oscar Penaloza, 34, of Denver sped away from them at speeds of as high as 90 mph after going through a red light and driving away when police attempted to pull him over.

Penaloza then apparently jumped out of the car near Del Mar Park in Aurora, near Del Mar Circle and Peoria. Officers found him dead from injuries sustained after jumping out of the vehicle.

The children, ages 2 and 3, were not physically injured even though they were not properly restrained in the SUV.

Police said it appears Penaloza is the father of the children and that he had been involved in an argument and physical fight with the mother of the child and her sister before the incident.
