Law Enforcement Cracking Down On Drugged Drivers

DENVER (CBS4)- The Colorado Department of Transportation is teaming up with law enforcement officers across Colorado to crack down on drugged drivers.

Officers launched an "Anti-Drugged Driving" campaign on Friday. They said about 16 percent of all deadly accidents are the result of someone who is behind the wheel under the influence of drugs.

"We don't care whether or not you've stopped off after work and had a couple of drinks after a hard day on the job. We don't care that you have a prescription bottle on board with you when we stop you. And we don't care if you have a marijuana registry card. You will be arrested," said State Trooper Jeff Goodwin.

CDOT said there has been an increase in the number of people arrested who were under the influence of marijuana. Officers believe the growing number of dispensaries is a likely factor.
