Homicide Detectives Investigating Body Found On Lookout Mountain

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4)- The body found on Lookout Mountain is that of a 69-year-old man. His death is being investigated as a possible homicide.

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies were called on Wednesday at about 3:20 p.m. after the man's body was spotted by two cyclists on Lariat Trail in Windy Saddle Open Space Park atop Lookout Mountain.

The man is from the Denver area, but his identity is not being released until his family is notified. The circumstances surrounding his death are suspicious.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon. The coroner's office will try to determine the specific cause and manner of death.

Wednesday, the cyclists told police they stopped to take a rest and saw the body below where they were resting.

Lariat Loop was completely closed to both cyclists and drivers while police investigated.

Police called the death suspicious even though they said there were no obvious signs of trauma to the man's body.
