Deputy Cited In Colorado Springs Fatal Crash
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - An El Paso County sheriff's deputy faces a charge for a car crash that killed an Air Force reservist.
The Colorado State Patrol on Wednesday issued 42-year-old Rodney Fannin a misdemeanor citation for careless driving resulting in death. Investigators say Fannin ran a red light in Colorado Springs two weeks ago and hit the car driven by Capt. Vivian Elmo. She died at the scene.
Elmo was an active-duty reservist with the 310th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base. Fannin was off-duty and in his personal vehicle at the time of the accident.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Fannin was on probation for a careless driving conviction when the crash happened.
The sheriff's office says it is conducting an internal investigation.
