Online Program & Phone App Help With Exercise, Eating Right

Written by Money Saver Suzanne McCarroll
DENVER (CBS4) - If you're trying to lose weight, and incorporate exercise into your life, www.myfitnesspal.com is a free, online option. It's also an app on smart phones.

CBS4 money saver Suzanne McCarroll asked college senior Patrice Kane to give My Fitness Pal a try. She dutifully logged her breakfast, lunch and dinner, and whatever exercise she did in a day. She was horrified by the number of calories she consumed and how few calories her laborious laps of swimming burned.

"In a good way it makes you feel guilty so it would make me feel a lot more conscious of what I'm eating," Kane said.

My Fitness Pal keeps track of your calorie, protein, calcium, fat, and carbohydrate intake. You can actually program it to monitor a variety of other things as well from sugar to calcium intake.

My Fitness Pal also predicts how much you'll weigh by your target date if you stick to the plan you've chosen. The program has an extensive data base so if you've eaten something, it's highly likely the site knows all the pertinent facts of that food.

Kane liked the program, she just didn't like what it was telling her -- make healthier choices and exercise more.
