Dougherty Siblings Set For Colorado Court Appearance

PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS4) - The three siblings who were captured in Walsenberg last week after a nationwide manhunt will appear before a judge in Pueblo on Monday.

Lee Grace Dougherty, 29, Dylan Dougherty, 26, and Ryan Edward Dougherty, 21, led the FBI across the country for more than a week before they were finally captured on Wednesday morning.

Police say they exchanged gunfire with the siblings during a chase that ended in a crash along Interstate 25.

The trio faces tentative charges in both Pueblo and Huerfano counties that include attempted first-degree murder and assault. Their bonds are all now at $2.5 million each.

The siblings were originally wanted for allegedly shooting at a police officer in Florida on Aug. 2 and robbing a bank in Georgia afterwards. Ryan Edward also has a grand theft auto warrant in Florida.

A judge on Friday put a gag order in place due to heavy media attention surrounding the case. Before that, Gary Schaaf -- one of three troopers with the Colorado State Patrol who was involved in the pursuit -- told reporters he was greatly concerned when the shots started coming in their direction.

"Initially I was angry. I thought it was audacious, anti-social and it did make me angry," he said.

Court documents say Lee Grace Dougherty waived her rights to remain silent after the capture and told investigators she and her brothers weren't trying to injure the police officers who were following them when they started shooting.

"We weren't trying to hurt anyone, we just wanted them to get back," she said. "They were way back and we could barely see them."

The Associated Press reported that speeds during the chase reached as high as 120 mph.

Lee was shot in the leg by Walsenburg Police Chief James Chamblerlain before being captured and, according to court documents, said she "deserved it."

The siblings were arraigned by video conference in Huerfano County late last week.
