Mesa County Sheriff Not Happy With 'Dog' Chapman

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado sheriff's office has a bone to pick with Duane "Dog" Chapman.

The sheriff's office says Chapman got into a scuffle with a fugitive Wednesday and used pepper spray while apprehending Andrew Distel, who had warrants out for his arrest for failure to appear on two felony cases. Both charges involved possession of methamphetamine. Bonds totaled more than $25,000.

Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey says on his blog that Chapman acted without regard for contaminating other citizens in the lobby of the sheriff's office, or the employees of the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office had to decontaminate public entrances, but the pepper spray incident was not under investigation, according to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel.

Chapman and his team did not return an email seeking comment Thursday.
