Lightning Strikes Home, Ignites Roof On Fire

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4)- Nearly three dozen firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at a home in Centennial that was caused by lightning at about 2:50 p.m. Thursday.

All five people inside the home at the time escaped unharmed. They said the lightning sounded like a huge explosion.

Copter4 flew over the hole left in the roof. Burned shingles and a chimney were visible from the sky.

About 33 firefighters from South Metro Fire Rescue Authority and the Littleton Fire Department rushed to the home. The lightning caused fire in both the exterior and the interior, causing significant damage to the home.
