Petitions Turned In To Ban Marijuana Businesses In Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Petitions for an initiative to ban medical marijuana businesses in Fort Collins have been turned in to elections officials.

The clerk's office has five business days to verify that more than 4,200 of the signatures are valid.

The city council could adopt the ordinance as written or send it to voters to decide in November.

The proposed ordinance would prohibit medical marijuana businesses in the city, including dispensaries, grow operations and other marijuana enterprises.

Initiative sponsor Ray Martinez tells the Fort Collins Coloradoan that Fort Collins has become a hub for marijuana distribution after Loveland and Greeley banned medical marijuana businesses.
