Charles Chaput Returns To Colorado Before Taking New Role

DENVER (AP) - Charles Chaput is returning to Colorado before taking on his new role leading the Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Chaput is set to hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon in Denver to talk about his appointment to lead Philadelphia's 1.5 million Catholics. The church there has been rocked by two grand jury reports that accuse the church of hiding sex-abuse complaints for decades.

Chaput has spent most of his career in the West. He'll serve as the administrator of the Denver archdiocese until he's installed in Philadelphia next month.

Chaput was one of the bishops chosen by the pope in 2009 to investigate the Legionaries of Christ. In recent years, the religious order has confirmed that its late founder fathered three children and sexually abused young seminarians.
