BLM Schedules Hearing Next Month On Pinon Canyon
PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - The Bureau of Land Management is holding a hearing next month on allowing the Army to continue using the Pinon Canyon training site.
The Aug. 2 hearing is part of periodic review. The hearing does not include any consideration of whether Pinon Canyon will be increased at some future time.
The Army's efforts to expand Pinon Canyon since 2006 have stirred up far-reaching opposition across southeastern Colorado from ranchers opposed to the plans.
U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton has requested that the BLM conduct public meetings about the Pinon Canyon issue in the region, where local residents could attend and comment on the Army's stewardship of the training range, according to the Pueblo Chieftain.
