Search For Amy Ahonen Continues, Fundraiser Held

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - There's still no sign of a Denver woman who went missing more than a week ago.

Volunteers resumed their search Sunday through thick vegetation and steep terrain west of Golden for Amy Ahonen. She was last seen July 8.

Ahonen's jeep was found off Highway 6 in Clear Creek Canyon near Golden with her cell phone and wallet inside.

Fifteen different teams of volunteers searched a 13 mile area of the canyon, centered around a trail known as Mayhem Gulch, on Saturday and Sunday morning. No evidence of Ahonen has been found so far.

Friends and family say they'll continue searching for her.

Ahonen is a hiker and loves the outdoors. She is 5-foot-4 with a slender frame, light blonde hair, and blue-green eyes. She is divorced and has no children. She moved here 5 years ago with her husband.

Ahonen's sisters flew to Denver last week and told CBS4 Ahonen's ex-husband lives in Florida and is very worried about her. The two ended their marriage on good terms, they said.

A fundraiser was being held in Wheat Ridge at Smoking Joe's on Sunday evening to help with search funds. The restaurant is located at 4700 Kipling Street and the phone number is (303) 428-4597.
