Drivers Can Expect A Hefty Bill For Storm Damage Repair

DENVER (CBS4)- Hundreds of drivers across the Denver metro area will be paying a little more to repair storm damage after this week's storms.

Technicians at Ed Bozarth Collision Center said most hail damage will run a little more than what drivers are used to. The weak economy is impacting repairs.

"People are retaining their cars. They're actually hanging onto the insurance check, which means used parts are hard to come by," said Ed Bozarth Collision Center technician James Stonecipher.

The shortage of used cars and used car parts makes body work on vehicles more expensive. That applies to cars that were in crashes and those with hail damage.

If you have hail damage, call your insurance company right away. Insurance adjusters offer this advice before getting your vehicle repaired.

  • Always get at least two estimates for repairs.
  • Make sure your body shop guarantees your work.
  • Ask about a procedure called "paintless dent repair" which is less expensive but often more effective.
  • Don't forget some shops offer discounts to senior citizens and military service personnel.
