Hate Crime Charges Filed After Mooning Incident In Summit County

FRISCO, Colo. (CBS4) - A Commerce City man is facing hate crime charges after an incident last week in which he allegedly exposed his buttocks and caused a commotion on a public bus.

The incident took place in unincorporated Summit County last Thursday morning on a Summit Stage bus while it was stopped at Highway 9 and High School Road. That's between Frisco and Breckenridge.

After Jay Cromwell III, 38, reportedly dropped his pants and exposed his butt, authorities said he assaulted another passenger. He then "made enough derogatory comments to escalate the incident to a hate crime," according to the sheriff's department.

Cromwell faces third degree assault and harassment charges, both misdemeanors, plus a felony bias-motived crime charge.

As of Monday Cromwell had not posted bail. He could face three years or more in jail.

The name and identity of the victim in the case is being withheld.
