Man Who Allegedly Hid In Portable Toilet Arrested

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- The man Boulder police believe hid inside a portable toilet at a weekend yoga festival is under arrest. Luke Irvin Christo, 30, was arrested by Vail police on a traffic charge that is unrelated to the incident at the Hanuman Yoga Festival on June 17.

Detectives received more than a dozen tips regarding the case and investigators were looking for Christo in Boulder on Thursday. Vail and Avon police stopped Christo on Interstate 70 during an investigation of a panhandling incident at a Vail gas station.

That's when an officer realized that Christo resembled the portable toilet suspect. He was arrested Thursday afternoon on unlawful sexual contact and criminal invasion of privacy, related to the yoga portable toilet incident.

On June 17, a woman who went into the toilet said she noticed something moving inside the tank when she lifted the lid. A man she asked to check reported seeing someone covered in a tarp inside the tank.

The man told police he walked outside and heard the toilet door look from inside. A festival security supervisor waiting outside said a man eventually emerged and he chased him.

But the suspect, described as covered in waste, slipped away.

Christo remains in the custody of the Vail Police Department.

"We are grateful to the public for helping us resolve this disgusting case in an expeditious manner. They gave us a number of tips which pointed us in the right direction. Our gratitude also extends to the Vail and Avon police departments for their assistance," said Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner.
