Murder Suspect Arrested In Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Westminster have arrested a man they found inside an apartment while officers were conducting a welfare check on a woman who lived there. Eric Eugene Lyerly, 52 has been arrested for first degree murder.

Officers were called to check on the woman living in an apartment at 8290 Federal Blvd. at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Police were unable to contact the woman. Neighbors could not report hearing any disturbance.

The woman's family requested a second welfare check a few hours later. As officers entered the apartment at 11:37 a.m. they were contacted by an adult man, Lyerly. A further check of the apartment found a deceased adult woman.

Lyerly was booked at the Westminster Police Department and transported to the Adams County Jail.

The identity of the murder victim has not been released. The homicide investigation at the apartment continued Wednesday evening.
