LAFAYETTE, Colo. (AP) ― Democratic Rep. Jared Polis visited a high school in Lafayette Thursday to promote his bill to increase training for teachers.

Polis is proposing a new measure to spend some $500 million to increase professional development for teachers. Polis argues that increasing training for teachers would lead to better outcomes for students. He says that the average American teacher receives only 14 to 16 hours of professional development per year.

The Democrat proposed a similar measure last year. The measure didn’t make it to a vote by the full House.
