Hearing Monday For Boy Accused Of Killing Parents

DENVER (AP) - A 12-year-old boy accused of killing his parents and wounding his two younger siblings at their home in Burlington is due in court Monday for a pretrial hearing.

The bodies of Charles and Marilyn Long were found March 1 after 911 dispatchers received a call about a shooting. Two of the couple's children were injured.

The hearing Monday is closed to the public.

The Denver Post reports that afterward, District Attorney Bob Watson will have 30 days to decide whether to request a transfer hearing in which a judge could decide whether the boy will be tried as an adult.

Watson says he will consider several factors including the seriousness of the crime and the best interests of the juvenile and the safety of the community.
