Boulder Family Reacts To Hiker Trial Delay In Iran

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- The trial for two American hikers accused of spying in Iran was delayed today. Court proceedings were scheduled to begin Wednesday, but the Iranian court delayed the trial without giving a reason.

The two men, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, were arrested in 2009 while hiking near the Iran-Iraq border. They claim they were sightseeing. Bauer's finacee, Sarah Shourd, was also arrested. She was released from custody in 2010 for medical reasons.

Bauers' sister, Shannon, lives in Boulder. She released this family statement on Wednesday, "We are even more deeply concerned for their health and welfare as a result of their non-appearance. There is an urgent humanitarian imperative to release them and we call on Iran to do so immediately."
