Springs Woman's Disappearance Investigated As Homicide

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Springs police say they are running out of hope that a woman missing since March 31 is still alive and are investigating her disappearance as a homicide.

Police said Friday they believe that 51-year-old Deborah Heriford is a victim of foul play because it's unlike her to be out of touch with her family for so long.

The Gazette reports that Heriford didn't show up for her job as a crossing guard at an elementary school April 1. Her dog was found tangled in its leash about a half mile from her house.

Court records show Heriford separated from her husband, Harold Heriford, in July 2010 and their divorce was to be final May 24. Police declined to say Friday if there are any suspects in the case.
