CU Regents Approve Tuition Hike For Boulder Campus

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - The University of Colorado regents have approved a 9.3 percent tuition increase for in-state students on the Boulder campus.

The Daily Camera reports the board of regents voted 5-4 Wednesday to boost the annual tuition by $654 to $7,672 for students in the College of Arts and Sciences, the biggest college.

Those voting for the increase say it's needed to maintain the school's quality in face of multimillion-dollar cuts in state funding. Opponents say rising rates will price some students out.

Out-of-state students are guaranteed a four-year, locked tuition rate, but the annual rate for incoming nonresident students will rise by $850 to $28,850.

Tuition increases on all CU campuses will generate an estimated $36 million, depending on enrollment. CU faces a $46 million cut in state funding next year.
