Driver Of Motor Home Taken Into Custody Near Berthoud

BERTHOUD, Colo. (CBS4)- SWAT teams released a flash bomb to get the driver of a motor home to surrender to authorities in Berthoud Thursday afternoon. Law enforcement became aware of the motor home because it originally had been called in as a Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately (REDDI) report.

The Colorado State Patrol was attempting to stop the motor home in Weld County when the driver attempted to get away. Troopers pursued the vehicle into Larimer County where a spike strip was deployed.

Troopers said the driver tried to avoid the spike strip, swerved and ended up in a field near County Road 12 and County Road 15 near Berthoud.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office SWAT unit tried to negotiate with the driver. When that did not work, a flash bomb was thrown into the motor home and the driver was taken into custody.

It took more than three hours to make the arrest. The name of the driver has not been released.
