Group Offers Unique Look Into Denver Mayoral Candidates' Homes

DENVER (CBS4)- A young, hip group is shaking up Denver's Mayoral Election with an MTV-style video that takes us inside the candidates' homes.

New Era Colorado made the video, Candidate Cribs: Denver Mayor's Election, which shows the candidates as never before.

In their homes, with their family and friends, as if the cameras were not there.

"We thought, what better way to show off someone who they are than go into their home," said Steve Fenberg with New Era Colorado.

Fenberg, head of the organization, said the idea behind the video is to engage young people in the political process.

"So we do a lot of our events at a bar where they'd be going on a Thursday or Friday anyway. We do a lot of registration via pub crawl. We go to festivals, concerts," said Fenberg.

The video features little known facts like who has a pool, a VCR, the best hair, who collects rocks and who wins best blind date.

"I think it's gotten better response than we thought. It's all over Facebook and twitter," said Fenberg. "Sort of made an otherwise boring summer mayoral race somewhat more interesting."

New Era Colorado volunteers registered 10,000 young voters in 2008. 85 percent of those actually voted. They received text reminders to cast their ballots.
