Teacher Accused Of Sex With Student Gets Deal

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman accused of having sex with a high school student will serve probation as part of a plea agreement.

Courtney Bowles, 31, pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. It's a fourth-degree felony. She'll serve a sentence of 10 years of intensive sex offender supervised probation.

Bowles was accused of having sex with a student in a car at Loveland's North Lake Park. She worked as an instructional coach for Mountain View High School in Loveland, where the 16-year-old boy was a student before the two were caught naked in a car Jan. 21 by Loveland police.

She admitted to having sex, according to police. A legal expert says the "serious bodily injury" part of the child abuse charge was likely sort of "made up" because no evidence has been presented that the boy was physically injured -- it's just a way to get to a sentence everyone can live with.

A judge could still sentence Bowles to 90 days behind bars.

Bowles was not necessarily working directly with students at the high school; her job involved helping teachers improve their performance. She resigned after her arrest and has no prior criminal record.
