3 Suspects In Deadly Aurora Incident Identified

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Aurora police have released the identity of a man who was killed after he and two other suspects were attempting to steal a car.

Officers were called to investigate a possible car theft in the 400 block of North Laredo when they encountered three suspects who have been identified as Oleg Gidenko, 20; Yevgeniy Straystar, 18; and Ruslan Giriyev, 18. When they saw police the suspects got into a truck and drove towards police, hitting one of the officers, according to Aurora Police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassidee Carlson.

Shots were fired and two of the three suspects were hit.

Gidenko died. Straystar remains in the hospital with a gunshot wound. Giriyev was transported to the Aurora City Jail after being released from the hospital Monday and was charged with criminal trespass. He is out on bond.

The officer sustained a head injury and was treated and released from a local hospital.

It was the third time in less than a week that an Aurora police officer has been hurt in the line of duty. Last Tuesday an officer was shot in the wrist in a hostage situation on East 1st Drive.

Then, on Thursday night, an officer was shot several times during a traffic stop at 15th and Emporia.

In all three incidents the suspects were killed.
