Suspect Killed, Officer Injured In Aurora Incident

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A suspect is dead and an Aurora police officer was injured after an attempted car theft overnight.

The suspect was shot in the 400 block of North Laredo, an industrial area near 6th and Chambers.

Officers were called to investigate a possible car theft when they encountered three suspects. When they saw police the suspects got into a truck and drove towards police, hitting one of the officers, according to Aurora Police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassidee Carlson.

Shots were fired and two of the three suspect's were hit.

One man died. The second was taken to the hospital and the third was arrested. The officer sustained a head injury and was treated and released from a local hospital.

This is the third time in less than a week that an Aurora police officer has been hurt in the line of duty. Last Tuesday an officer was shot in the wrist in a hostage situation on East 1st Drive.

Then, on Thursday night, an officer was shot several times during a traffic stop at 15th and Emporia.

In all three incidents the suspects were killed.
