DENVER (CBS4)- Denver International Airport is warning travelers and employees that they may have been exposed to measles. The exposure would have happened on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

According to the Department of Public Health and Environment, a person with measles arrived at DIA, Gate C39 at about 9 p.m. That person remained in the area for several hours.

People who were working or traveling through Concourse C at DIA on Tuesday after 9 p.m. should monitor themselves for any early symptoms of measles, especially fever, from March 1 to March 12.

People who develop a fever should contact their health care provider or their local or state health department. People with symptoms should not go to child care, school, work or out in public, as they might have the early symptoms of measles and might be contagious. People with these symptoms should call their doctor to inform the office about their symptoms before showing up in the waiting room.

Measles is a very contagious viral disease which is easily spread through coughing, sneezing and secretions from the mouth. The measles virus may remain in the air for a couple of hours. Measles develops seven to 18 days after exposure.

Early symptoms of measles are fever, runny nose, cough and red, watery eyes. Usually, one to four days after the early symptoms, a red rash appears on the face and spreads to the rest of the body. A person with measles is contagious beginning four days before the rash appears.

People are considered immune to measles if they were born in the United States before 1957, previously had measles or have had two measles shots.

The last case of measles in a Colorado resident was in 2006. Before that, the state had one case in 2004 and two cases in 2000.

More beaten down disease that were no longer present in America before the slew of Illegals came flocking over the border. These disease ridden, unsanitary living criminals are bringing a ton of diseases once dormant into America. Just another reason to lock down the border.

  3. Becky says:

Most of us have already gotten a measles vaccine. There’s a combo Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) that is part of the common, recommended vaccine serious that most kids get. I remember getting it as a child as well.

  4. Becky says:

Measles is a serious disease. However, on any given day in airports across the US, people are traveling with contagious illnesses that might result in death for someone. Living is dangerous. So on any given day do you think that all major cities with airports should issue these alerts? Monday – child with chicken pox. Tuesday – man with flu, Wed – man with TB, Thurs- Woman with nasty skin fungus on her hands, Friday – child with stomach virus. And don’t forget the busses and the sports arenas!

Come on. What is interesting here is not so much that the measles announcement was made, but that the announcement is such big news.

Wanna take my bet that there will be a big push for a measles vaccine within 30 days? Anyone?

  5. Sharon Barnes says:

When the Europeans landed on North and South America, measles and smallpox came with them. The natives had no immunity at all. The diseases wiped out entire communities. That is one reason the Europeans were successful at colonizing both continents. This is a serious disease and should be taken seriously.

  6. Richard says:

Why are they not more concerned about the people that were on the same plane he/she were on? And why nothing about the departure city? This is now a national head line now that’s on Drudge

  7. Becky says:

Are they going to be issuing alerts anytime they find someone has the flu now too? More people die from the flu.

Who wants to take bets that within the next 30 days we will see a big media push for a measles vaccine?

NOTHING IS SAID IN THE ARTICLE ABOUT THE “PERSON’S” POINT OF ORIGIN.
SHE IS PROBABLY FROM MEXCIO OR ANOTHER THIRD WORLD COUNTRY WHERE NO ONE RECEIVES VACCINES OR INOCULATIONS.

THE U.S. BEGAN A PROCESS OF VACCINATING AGAINST DISEASES SUCH AS MEASLES, MUMPS, DIPTHERIA. WHOPPING COUGH (PERTUSSIS), YEARS AGO AND THOSE DISEASES ARE NOW VIRGTUALLY ERADICATED FROM THE POPULACE.

HOWEVER, WHEN PEOPLE COME INTO THIS COUNTRY WITH THE DISEASE, IT CAN QUICKLY SPREAD AMONG THE ELDERLY, OR THOSE WHO HAVE VULNERABLE CONSTITUTIONS, OR HAVE NOT YET BEEN VACCINATED.

IT IS NOT A PLOY BY “BIG PHARMA” TO SELL MORE DRUGS.

IT CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND AN EPIDEMIC COULD RESULT.

    THE PRECAUTIONS RECOMMENDED ARE REASONABLE.

This person probably knew that they were sick. Same selfish, callous people that go to work sick, or send their sick children to school sick, without a thought to anyone else. Despicable people…

  11. michele says:

What a bunch of drama queens , they just want those filthy vaccines pumped into everyone. More people died and are injured by vaccines than any flu or measles.

  12. HankR says:

I am amazed at the cavalier and bizarre responses above. You now live in a world that is supposedly without measles which for centuries took lives – so when cases do come up they must be recognized. The ignorance and absolute willfull disbelief and conspiracy theory lunacy is palpable.

In 2008, approximately 164,000 people died of measles in the world – but people who are ignorant would not know that.
We in the US are fairly safe if you have been immunized, unfortunately as someone above points out, more and more people are choosing not to vacinate their chilren for a fraudelent fear of autism (there is no medical connection) so ti si indeed something to warn about.
For those who choose to be ignorant, perhaps you should do some research. If not, I encourage you to chime out of the conversation. It is time for the children to go to bed and the adults to have a conversation.

  13. PJ says:

There was a time in our country when immigrants and foreign visitors were not allowed in our country without proof of immunizations AND a clean health record. Thank you to Jimmy Carter and others who dropped that requirement. Now we have all the disease we had rid ourselves of in our country again. Would you let someone with a communicable disease in your home to spread it to your children or spouse? Get real. We need to go back to what works and quit letting everyone in here unabated.

  16. R. Fain says:

Lemme see…Get the vaccine, don’t get the measles, have a dubious chance of becoming autistic. Don’t get the vaccine, you WILL get the measles. (Some of us are old enough to remember when everyone got the mumps, measles and German measles – the vaccine is MUCH better).

Since autism has had no positive connection to MMR or other vaccines, and there are so many other things in our environment that could be the more likely culprit, I find it difficult to understand how someone can still believe a discredited, made up report from England. Seriously, people, find the REAL cause of autism.

It’s amazing how little the general Denver population knows of both medicine and economics. I’m a Physician in private practice for 31 yrs now. The Health Care system has begun it’s collapse in response to Obamacare. This will accelerate as it becomes commonly know that in the near future, Medical Students will graduate with $300-400K debt and the earning potential of the Hospital janitor. Obama now OWNS all student loans and earnings will be garnished to repay them. We are living on the remnants of the system that came before, it will soon be wiped out. Get ready for a Zimbabwean level health care system. Thanks Barack. Activism in medical care by ignorant and stupid amatuers ALWAYS leads to massive death; think Rachel Carson, DDT and 100 million Malaria deaths on 3 Continents. Oh Yeah, Rachel Carson has killed more millions than Hitler, Mao and Stalin combined.

    1. jgjgjgjg says:

Obamacare has nothing to do with this. Before you could travel overseas in the past, you had to be inoculated. That’s no longer the case. Your libertarian utopian fantasies are creating problems where none existet before.

    2. Cowboy says:

      DDT is an excellent example.

    3. rocketw says:

If you were really a “Physician” [sic], you would know that a neuter possessive pronoun is not formed by adding an apostrophe. The word is “its,” not “it’s.” You would also not capitalize common nouns in the middle of sentences and you’d be able to use punctuation a bit more correctly. If you are a “Physician,” you haven’t much credibility due to the plethora of mistakes.
I used to be Shirley Temple, BTW. I’m taking online courses now and hope to earn, by the end of April, a post-grad certificate that will allow me to identify myself as the Easter bunny.

  21. Dean says:

Measles are no big deal…I had them when I was a child…my children had them…I would be more afraid of the vaccines which kills more people, than I would be of the disease…Everything is about making you afraid…fear is how they control the population…and if you have been vaccinated against a disease than why do you care if someone else hasn’t…aren’t you immuned…do you think the thugs in control care about whether you get measles…NOOO…they care about being able to vaccinate everyone with God only knows what….

    1. Cowboy says:

Measles CAN be a big deal. You were fortunate.

Your claim about vaccines is absurd.

She refused for Religious Reasons. Which Religion?
During the Dark Ages, armies that held an Enemy’s City under Siege. would catapult DISEASED CORPSES, over the City Walls. They used them as WEAPONS.
Since Hussein’s good friend, and fellow Religion of Peace members, are, themselves,re-living the Dark Ages, I wouldn’t put this past them.
The sooner the Muslim World is ANIHILATED, the sooner the world will know PEACE.

I have had the measles 3 times when I was young so saying you can get them only once is wrong. I was also planning to go out to Seattle to see my new baby grandson, at that time and that gate but decided to not go. God works in such amazing ways.
