Tow Truck Driver Dragged To Death In Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Authorities say a Colorado tow truck driver has died after he was dragged by a chain for more than a mile behind an SUV he was preparing to tow.

The owner of the towing company said police in Colorado Springs told him the SUV was being towed Wednesday because it was illegally parked. The vehicle was parked at the Hill Park Apartments on N. Murray Blvd.

The driver was dragged to the area of Babcock and Murray, nearly two miles away.

The Colorado Springs Gazette quoted a witness as saying the victim's legs were entangled in the chain. Police say the man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the driver of the SUV was aware that the man was caught in the chain.

Authorities have not released the name of the tow truck driver or the driver of the SUV.

The driver is in police custody.
