Homeowners Tackle Do-It-Yourself Projects By Learning New Skills

DENVER (CBS4)- Some homeowners are joining a growing trend of tackling do-it-yourself projects by learning new skills. Many aspiring carpenters are joining a club to learn with others of a similar mindset.

Chris Bentson is part of a woodworking club, where she is learning the craft in a specialized space and using someone else's tools.

When asked if she believes she is saving money by building it herself, Bentson replied, "At some point, if you're very good at what you do and don't make mistakes."

There is an hourly fee of $2 to $10 to use the tools at one club. The good news, the advice is free.

"In this case, I'm building a cabinet to go in my bathroom and it absolutely is going to go in there," said novice carpenter John Wilcox. "I don't have to pay for the labor."
