Judge Rules On Visitation For Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- A teacher accused of having sex with a student will be allowed to contact her own children, but only by phone. That ruling came from a judge on Thursday, after Courtney Bowles asked for permission to see her own two children.

The Instructional Coach from Mountain View High School in Loveland was arrested in January after a police officer said he found Bowles, 31, naked with a 16-year-old student in the back of her car at a park.

Bowles has not been able to communicate with her own children for three weeks. After her arrest, a judge barred her from contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Bowles asked the judge to allow her supervised contact with her two daughters, asking that her husband be the supervisor. Instead, the judge ruled Bowles can only contact her daughters by telephone, for 30 minutes at a time, every other day. Her husband must monitor the calls.

Bowles' attorney, Derek Samuelson, told the judge, "Her children are suffering. Her husband believes it's in the best interest of his young daughters that they have contact with their mother."

The prosecutor argued against Bowles being allowed back in her home before a thorough evaluation.

"We do not know what's going on in that home. I'm not saying anything is going on. We don't know. I would hate to life the no contact order and have something go terribly wrong," said prosecutor Rene Doak.

The judge said he is being cautious to protect the couple's children as the attorneys work toward a plea agreement in the sexual assault case. That could come as early as 2 weeks when Bowles is due back in court.
