Repair Shops See Brisk Business After Days Of Slick Roads

DENVER (CBS4)- Insurance companies and auto body repair shops have seen a surge in business over the past couple of weeks. Winter storms have made for some difficult driving in the metro area.

At Sterling Auto, service technicians have seen mostly front and rear-end damage.

"A lot of minor accidents," said Roger Francis with Allstate Insurance.

Francis has been exceptionally busy with claims. It's something he says is most often seen at the beginning of the season.

"The problem with this season, primarily is we've had one storm and then we've had a really long space of nice, dry weather and people kind of tend to get out of the habit of their snow driving skills," said Francis.

Francis is an insurance agent with 20 years of experience. He said there are options for drivers who are nervous about driving in snow.

"Give yourself extra time, make sure that you have the right amount of windshield washer fluid. Make sure that your windshield wiper blades are good so that you give yourself good visibility. Drive with your lights on. Give people appropriate distance, relax while you drive," said Francis.

Some 15 to 20 percent of drivers on Colorado's roadways are uninsured.
