Teacher Accused Of Sex With Student Appears In Court

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  (CBS4) - A teacher accused of having sex with a student went to court on Tuesday afternoon asking a judge to change the conditions of her bond.

Courtney Bowles is charged with sexual assault on a child and part of her bond prevents her from having contact with anyone younger than 18 years old. The Loveland Reporter-Herald newspaper reported that Bowles reportedly has two children of her own.

Additional details in the bond hearing weren't heard because the attorney's made their cases to the judge out of earshot, up at the bench, which the public in the gallery couldn't hear.

Bowles arrived at court with her husband and her attorney. It's CBS4's understanding the hearing was to ask the judge to allow the 31-year-old to have contact with her own children.

Police say they found Bowles naked in the back of her car with a 16-year-old boy who she knew from Mountain View High School where she worked and he is a student.

Bowles cried in court as the judge denied her request to see her children, but another bond hearing was set for Thursday to continue discussing the issue.

The prosecutor says they are working on a possible plea deal in this sex assault case.

In court when the judge mentioned a possible plea the defense said there wouldn't be an agreement on Tuesday and the prosecutor said that a plea might not be ready by Thursday. That's when Bowles will be back in court, apparently hoping the judge will allow her to have contact with her children.

Bowles has resigned from her job with the Thompson School District.
